Rick Littlefield
Director & Owner of Robin Hood Camp- Maine since 1985.
Moose safaris, Mount Desert Oceanarium, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, and Casco Bay are just a few of the things to do in Maine. Rick Littlefield believes that if you're wondering what to do in Maine in 2022, we've compiled a list of the greatest sites to visit. Whatever your age or hobbies, you're likely to discover something you'll appreciate.
Moose safaris are an exciting opportunity to get up close and personal with moose. Tourists may go on moose safaris with a variety of outdoor companies. The guides can get tourists near enough to capture shots without endangering them. You may also hire snowmobiles and boats to explore the region and see the animals up close. If you're searching for an outdoor experience in Maine, moose safaris are a fantastic option. The Coastal Maine Botanical Garden, located in Boothbay, Maine, is a lovely place for families or romantic vacations. The gardens are open from May to October and make for an excellent day excursion. 38,000 blooming bulbs began to sprout in early May, producing a magnificent springtime spectacle. Following that, visit one of the eateries for a nice meal or an ice cream stack. If you like the ocean, go to the Mount Desert Oceanarium near Bar Harbor. This site is home to one of the world's few surviving lobster hatcheries. Visitors may get up up and personal with lobsters, horseshoe crabs, and other aquatic creatures. At the lobster hatchery, a 30-minute presentation describes the lobster-raising process. Real lobsters will fascinate children! Rick Littlefield points out that the islands in Casco Bay in Maine are often referred to as the Calendar Islands. These little towns are rich in history, culture, and gourmet cuisine. You may try ethnic cuisine, fresh seafood, and eat at Michelin-starred restaurants. Portland and its port also host Maine's oldest lighthouse, Portland Head Light. Casco Bay is an excellent spot to relax with a nice read or a tasty lunch. Maine's blueberry harvesting season in 2022 might be the finest in state history. The wild blueberry crop in 2022 might exceed 105 million pounds, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. This sum is higher than the eighty to ninety million pounds predicted last year. In 2000, the crop reached a record high of 110 million pounds. The wild blueberry crop in Maine has increased by roughly 80% in the last five years. Windjammers are historic sailing boats that have been in use in the region since 1936. These boats are remarkable in that they do not have an inboard engine and instead are propelled by separate yawl boats. Some captains use the wood-burning stoves on these boats to bake cookies and bread. A Windjammer trip is an excellent way to see Maine, and the MWA has a fleet of nine windjammers. The Grace Bailey and Mistress are original 19th-century coasters, while the Grace Bailey is a combination of a classic schooner and a contemporary yacht. According to Rick Littlefield, the Maritime Museum of Maine has a huge collection of paintings by the world's most recognized artists. The museum has a permanent collection as well as a rotating display that changes from year to year. This museum has works by well-known artists such as Rockwell Kent, George Inness, and Thomas Cole. Works by American and European marine artists are also on display at the museum. On Fridays, the museum is free. Summer in Maine means visiting swimming holes and waterfalls. Swimming and rafting are popular activities in the state. Water-based attractions include the Bickford Slides, also known as Rattlesnake Flume, Coos Canyon, and Little Wilson Falls. Step Falls in Grafton Notch and Houston Brook Falls in Bingham are two more waterfalls. You may also appreciate the state's breathtaking beauty from above if you prefer scenic flying trips in gliders and biplanes.
